I think it’s hard for an artist to see past a beautiful face. For me it’s a lot of pressure to convey more than just the outward beauty of a human being, all while doing justice to the gift of physical attractiveness the person has been given. This tall and quiet artist subverts beauty expectations by leaning in to the uncanny in her artwork. Her interest in the dark history of the PNCA building contrasted dramatically with her serene expression throughout our time together. It was fun to try and capture the little mischief that would pop up in her smile now and again. . The portrait itself is technically one of the best in this series, and won me FAV15% in the March Boldbrush competition. ~Tali
