Brandy's Sunflowers - still life on windowsill

Image Description

An original impressionist still life by fine artist: Talya Johnson. A bouquet of bright yellow and orange sunflowers explode from a transparent glass vase. The shadow of the vase and the flower's green stalks trails across the window sill. You can almost feel the heat of the sunlight as it pours through the window.

Behind the Canvas

I painted this still life on a whim one Sunday afternoon. At the time, I did not paint on Sundays because I felt it wouldn't be in keeping with the Sabbath. I justified my "Sabbath breaking" by promising myself that the original would be used as a gift and not for sale. In keeping with my promise, I gifted the painting to a dear friend. Sunflowers are for friendship. Sunflowers are for happiness. And Sunflowers are for God. I have since decided that God wants me to paint whatever day it may be. It has become my form of worship and expression of gratitude. What better way to honor Creation than multiplying it and sharing it?!

I don't use oil pastels often, but occasionally I get an itch that only the unique texture of pastel can satisfy. Inspired by classical impressionist, this original painting rendered in oil pastels will bring out the summer sunshine in your soul. The image of the translucent vase and it's cargo of yellow petals is sure to delight any friend you gift it too. Consider treating yourself to a splash of summer colour! Bring this happy bouquet into your home, so you too can remember the sunshine in your life. ~Tali

"I am following Nature without being able to grasp her... I perhaps owe having become a painter to flowers. " - Claude Monet

"I'm now painting with all the elan of a Marseillais eating soup, which won't surprise you when I tell you I'm painting large sunflowers." -artist Vincent Van Gogh
