Behind the Scenes:

The day I worked with this beautiful model, Morgan, remains one in my memory as almost enchanted. It was a rare perfect Alaskan summer day, with fluffy dancing around the Chugach Rage. There was a slight breeze, and colorful dragon flies sparkled jewel-toned flecks in and out of the bright green grass. Some of my closest friends were painting nearby, enjoying the peaceful view in this last frontier. Morgan was hired to be the Painted Ladies costumed model for the Great Alaskan Plein air retreat as part of Michelle Dunaway's painting demonstration. The cool Alaskan light shone on Morgan's face and eyes reflecting the turquoise lake and blue mountains in a way I had not imagined. The antique long dress and velvet burgundy jacket made her look like a relic from the past—a goddess guarding the Eklutna Lake. I couldn't resist painting this close-up oil portrait of her face that challenges the viewer to come a little closer to the lady of the lake. ~Tali
